What mobile welding is

A mobile welder works from a truck or trailer that carries a welding machine, an engine drive or generator, cutting equipment, grinders, clamps and the rod or wire for the job. The truck pulls up to your gate, barn, job site or parking lot, and the repair happens where the problem is. That matters when the piece is too big to move, too heavy to load, or when a machine sitting idle costs a business money every hour.

Mobile work has limits. Very thin material, some specialty metals, and jobs that need heat treatment or a clean shop environment are often better done in a shop. A good provider will tell you that on the first call, rather than start a repair that will not hold.

Services we cover

Most calls fall into three groups. Each group has its own page with cost ranges, a step-by-step walkthrough and tips for choosing a welder.

  • Structural and steel repair: cracked beams, broken brackets, platforms, stairs, frames, canopies and building steel.
  • Trailer and equipment repair: cracked trailer frames, broken hitches, tailgates, bucket and implement damage, and worn mounts on farm or construction equipment.
  • Gates, fences and railings: sagging or broken gates, new posts and hinges, pipe fence, stair and balcony railings, and simple custom fabrication.

Where local providers work

The five towns below each have their own page describing the kinds of jobs that typically come up there. Distance matters for price, so a provider close to you is usually cheaper than one coming from across the county.

  • Katy: busy residential neighborhoods, ongoing new construction and commercial corridors along Interstate 10.
  • Cypress: large planned communities, commercial and light industrial areas near Highway 290, and some open land.
  • Fulshear: fast-growing newer neighborhoods next to ranch and acreage property.
  • Richmond: an older town with historic buildings, farm land and industrial yards.
  • Brookshire: a smaller town west of Katy, surrounded by farm and ranch land.

What to expect, step by step

The process is simple, and knowing the order helps you spot a provider who skips steps.

  • You describe the job, the location and how urgent it is, using the quote form or by phone.
  • A provider calls back, asks questions and often asks for photos of the damage.
  • You get a price or an estimate, including the call-out charge and what is covered.
  • The welder arrives, checks the work area for fire risks and prepares the metal.
  • The repair is made and checked, and you look it over before the truck leaves.
  • Payment terms are agreed before work starts, not argued about afterward.

What it costs, roughly

Prices vary widely. As a rough guide, mobile welders in the Houston area often charge somewhere around $85 to $150 an hour, plus a travel charge or a minimum call-out that commonly covers one to two hours of work. Small repairs often land in the low hundreds of dollars. Larger structural or fabrication jobs cost more, sometimes much more.

Treat those figures as a starting point only. Quotes vary by job, material, access and urgency. Before you agree to anything, ask for the call-out charge, the hourly rate, and whether materials are included.

Before you call

A little preparation shortens the call and gets you a better estimate.

  • Take two or three clear photos, one wide and one close up of the damage.
  • Write down the rough size of the piece and what it is made of, if you know.
  • Say how the welder will reach it: gravel drive, locked gate, soft ground, tight alley.
  • Tell the provider your deadline and whether the item can be shut down or moved.

Common questions

Is this site a welding company?

No. This site is a connection service. We pass your request to local mobile welders who run their own businesses. They set their own prices, schedules and terms, so confirm the details directly with the provider who calls you.

Do welders work evenings or weekends?

Some providers offer evening, weekend or emergency calls, often at a higher rate. Mention your timing on the request and ask the provider what is possible. Availability changes from week to week.

Can a mobile welder fix aluminum or cast iron?

Sometimes. Aluminum and cast iron need different equipment and technique from ordinary steel, and not every mobile rig carries what is needed. Say what the metal is when you request a quote, and ask the provider before assuming it can be done on site.

How soon can someone come out?

It depends on the provider's schedule and your location. Same-day or next-day visits are sometimes possible for urgent jobs, but there is no guarantee. Saying how urgent the job is lets the provider plan around it.

Does the welder bring the materials?

Often small items such as rod, wire, gas and common steel stock come with the truck. Larger pieces, special parts or custom materials may need to be ordered or picked up. Ask what the quoted price includes.
